Rashed Al-Swaisat, a 19-year-old Jordanian boxer, died on Monday in hospital ten days after suffering a serious brain injury during a fight of the Junior World Cup of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), held in the town of Kielce, in Poland.
Al-Swaisat was taken to the hospital on April 16 to undergo emergency surgery for a stroke that he suffered during the third round of his fight with the Estonian. Anton Winogradow, in the category of -81 kilos.
“It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the death of Rashed Al-Swaisat,” AIBA explained in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues, to whom we offer our sincere condolences.”
The Jordanian Olympic Committee has also confirmed the sad news. «We express our deep sorrow at the death of our member of the national boxing team. We extend our condolences to his family and friends.
