19-year-old Jordanian boxer dies after being knocked out at the youth World Cup

Rashed Al-Swaisat, a 19-year-old Jordanian boxer, died on Monday in hospital ten days after suffering a serious brain injury during a fight of the Junior World Cup of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), held in the town of Kielce, in Poland.

Al-Swaisat was taken to the hospital on April 16 to undergo emergency surgery for a stroke that he suffered during the third round of his fight with the Estonian. Anton Winogradow, in the category of -81 kilos.

“It is with deep sadness that we have learned of the death of Rashed Al-Swaisat,” AIBA explained in a statement. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues, to whom we offer our sincere condolences.”
