actor Ana de Armas Set to Direct the Highly Anticipated Netflix Original Movie, Blond. The first film of its kind was written and directed by Andrew Dominik. The film is based on Joyce Carol Oate’s best-selling novel, originally titled Blond. Netflix released a chilling glimpse of the film’s official trailer on June 16, showing the brunette as the undeniably accurate Marilyn Monroe. “Each scene is inspired by an existing photo,” De Armas told the Netflix queue. As many of Monroe’s iconic Hollywood portraits go, the trailer shows De Armas in a black-and-white film that looks – as Monroe would have apparently said – a “white” blonde in a pillowcase.
In the trailer, Monroe’s signature red lip, a faint black beauty mark, and luscious platinum locks are reflected in a mirror as she looks at herself with her hands clasped. “She’s coming,” echoes a voice in the distance. As she sobs in despair, we can see the pain of the beloved icon.
Each of the 47 consecutive days of filming started bright and early with up to three hours of hair and makeup, De Armas confirmed to the Netflix queue. Dominik’s adaptation of the late Monroe will feature some of her most notable performances of her entire career, according to Netflix. For example, in the trailer, you can see De Armas with shoulder-length Hollywood waves on one side of her face as she recreates Monroe’s iconic “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” performance in Howard Hawks’ musical Gentlemen prefer blondes.
The trailer gives us a glimpse into Monroe’s stage and personal personalities throughout her life. The film, which premieres September 23 on Netflix, reveals the intimate details behind the secret life of Monroe, brought to life by De Armas.
