Austria and the United States start ruling at the Real Club Marítimo de Santander

With British punctuality, the Real Club Marítimo de Santander gave the starting signal for the first day of the Santander Test Event – Port Authority Trophy for the 49er and Nacra17 Olympic classes – at 1 pm.

A day of good conditions, with an average northwest wind of up to 12 knots, which has delighted both athletes and fans who have gone out on the water.

The big favorite in the 49er class, together with local Diego Botín, Peter Burling gave an account of the exceptional sailing conditions in Cantabrian waters, which he has described as “epic”.

The almost centennial sports club has managed to bring together 15 countries (Spain, Germany, Switzerland, France, USA, Austria, New Zealand, Croatia, Sweden, Brazil, Finland, Argentina, Japan, Denmark or Norway) in what will be the Last appointment for the 49er and Nacra17 classes before the Tokyo Olympics.

In the 49ER class the show has not disappointed with RCMS athlete Diego Botín and his partner Iago López Marra engaged in a dog-face fight with the other great favorite Burling / Tuke. A fight in which in the end another of the greats has benefited: the Austrian team of Benjamin Bildstein and David Huss. The Austrian team leads the boxes, with two seconds and a third place.

If Botín-López Marra punctured in a first sleeve that went to the hands of the kiwi team, the second one changed the roles and the third one returned to the hands of the RCMS skipper. A set that leaves the leadership in the hands of the Austrians with 7 points, followed by Botín-Marra with 13 and Burling-Tuke with 14.
