The British pilot Sam Sunderland (KTM) has been imposed this Thursday on motorcycles in the penultimate stage of the Rally Dakar 2021, disputed between Al-Ula and Yanbu over 464 kilometers of special, in which the Argentine Kevin Benavides (Honda) has strengthened its leadership and Joan Barreda (Honda) ha abandoned.
The Spanish rider, who was fourth in the general classification a quarter of an hour behind the lead, missed a refueling point on this penultimate day and ran out of gasoline in the kilometer 267. Thus, he requested the assistance of the medical team and was transported by helicopter to the bivouac, confirming his abandonment.
Regarding the fight for the title, Benavides extended his leadership thanks to the bad day of Ricky Brabec (Honda), who lost almost 13 minutes compared to the winner. In this way, the Argentine will start the last stage on Friday with a 4:12 advantage over Sunderland and a 7:13 advantage over Brabec, who need a ruling from the main favorite to win the trophy.
