Following the regatta’s departure from Lorient (France) at the end of May, the first edition of The Ocean Race Europe will stop in Cascais and bring the best international ocean sailing teams in the world to Portugal.
The Ocean Race Europe will feature an international fleet of record-breaking VO65 monotypes that resulted in the most even edition in The Ocean Race history in 2017-18. For the teams, the regatta is the first step in their journey towards the next edition of the round the world tour in 2022-23, starting in Alicante.
The fleet of IMOCA monohulls with foils will participate for the first time in a regatta organized by The Ocean Race. IMOCA teams bring a high-tech component to the event, showcasing the latest technology from the foil world.

The local team in Cascais, the Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team, was the first VO65 crew to confirm their presence in the European regatta in January and the Mirpuri Foundation will host the event from its training base at the Clube Naval de Cascais, 30 km away. west of the Tagus estuary and Lisbon, between the Sintra Mountains and the Atlantic.

The Ocean Race Europe will begin in Lorient (France) during the last weekend of May, from where the teams will descend towards the south through the Bay of Biscay by the Atlantic, stopping at Cascais. From there, the two fleets will enter the Mediterranean. The Ocean Race Europe will finish in Genoa (Italy) in the third week of June, with a new stop along the route in the Mediterranean to be confirmed shortly.
