The MBFWMadrid, which will be held in person from April 8 to 11 at Ifema, will become the first international catwalk in face-to-face format in 2021, in which it will be its 73rd edition. It is an edition that will take place under “strict measures security ”, as emphasized by the organization, and with a capacity restricted to 24% of its capacity, as it already happened in its September 2020 edition.
The official calendar of this next Spanish fashion event, organized by Ifema together with the Madrid City Council, is made up of 14 established designers, whose parades and presentations will take place from Thursday to Saturday, while the day of Sunday 11 will be dedicated, as usual, to young creators who will star in a special call for the Allianz EGO program, with eight parades. A total of 22 creators, who will present their collections in Hall 14.1 at Feria de Madrid.
Hybrid format and new names
The 73rd edition of MBFWMadrid maintains its commitment to a hybrid format, alternating face-to-face shows with performances, projection of fashion films, as well as presentations and shows of the Off program. All this content can be viewed and followed through the official website and will include extra content with fashion and participating designers as protagonists.
Pablo Erroz, Otrura and Maite by Lola Casademunt join the official calendar of the catwalk. The three firms have a history of recognized prestige and their participation has been endorsed by the favorable assessment of the MBFWMadrid Fashion Committee, the event’s advisory body. Their incorporation will bring new speeches and creative language to the event.
The return of Ulises Mérida and Maya Hansen
Both the Toledo designer Ulises Mérida and the Madrid-based Maya Hansen, habitual in previous years, return in this edition with new presentation formats for their collections. Both designers, important protagonists of Spanish fashion, are committed to presenting their collections in various formats adapted to the new situation.
Andrés Sardá, Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, Hannibal Laguna or Custo Barcelona, among others, will be some of the established designers of our country who will also present their collections on the catwalk before the attending public and whose shows can also be followed in streaming.
As in every appointment with the great Spanish fashion platform, MBFWMadrid has an interesting Off program every day of the celebration (from April 8 to 11). Thus, renowned designers from the national scene will participate with different formats in various locations in the city of Madrid. Roberto Verino, García Madrid, Eduardo Navarrete, Ernesto Naranjo, Yvan Andreu, Pilar Dalbat, Dominnico, Zap & Buj, Odette Álvarez and María Lafuente, make up this program. In addition, ESNE also participates with its Green Patio collection fashion show and the Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda Madrid (CSDMM).
During the day of Saturday, April 10, the L’Oréal Paris Award for the Best Collection by a designer and the L’Oréal Paris Award for the Best Model will take place. Awards with which the brand recognizes the work behind each garment and each look, as well as the talent of all the teams.
At the close of the Allianz EGO event, Mercedes-Benz will also present its Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent award. There are now seventeen editions in which this award rewards the talent and creativity of young Spanish designers. The prize will consist of a cash prize of € 3,000.
Madrid is Fashion
As a novelty, from Ifema they have highlighted that the support of the Madrid City Council has been added as a sign of its commitment to Spanish fashion and of the different activities and calls that will converge in parallel around the same dates. “With this, the City Council reinforces its commitment to the design industry and to turn the city of Madrid into a great European benchmark for designer fashion”, they pointed out.
The Madrid is Fashion initiative organized by the Association of Fashion Creators of Spain (ACME), with the support of Madrid de Capital de Moda, will develop, as usual in parallel to the MBFWMadrid catwalk, a set of activities in different parts of the city. city, with fashion as the main protagonist. With this involvement, the Madrid City Council will participate in various activations that will give visibility to Madrid as the “epicenter of Spanish fashion”.
