TeamViewer presented an extensive update of its remote access software. With the new version, the core product of the Göppingen-based provider also gets its own name for the first time: TeamViewer Remote. Technically a lot has happened, TeamViewer Remote wants to be more accessible and secure.
The account requirement ensures transparency
One of the biggest innovations of the new version is probably the account requirement, which also applies to free users, but initially only affects those offering help, not those seeking help. In this way, the company wants to ensure that only those who provide information about themselves offer help. This data is used because in the future the recipient side will be shown information about the region of the world where someone is trying to detect the computer by TeamViewer.

Likewise, TeamViewer then provides information about the e-mail address and the type of reserved license of the support provider. This is intended to ensure greater transparency and thus strengthen security: Anyone who has booked support from a German provider but now receives a connection request from the US should listen carefully, said Chief Product Officer Hendrik Witt at the virtual presentation of the product.
In the future, TeamViewer users will also have the ability to access third-party computers via a web app. Until now, this required desktop software. The download tool and web application should be identical. Furthermore, the management console is now also used in the desktop client, which was previously only available as a separate web application.
One-time connections for convenience
Another novelty concerns the creation of a link between the parties involved. This way, help seekers can invite others to their desktop session via a one-click implementation. Previously, an ID and password were required for this – this should remain possible, but in the future it will also work via a shared link via email, WhatsApp and Co. As a security feature, shared links are deactivated after the first click.
Also, according to Witt, they want to further open TeamViewer in the direction of integration into third-party applications. However, further details have not yet been released. However, it is also conceivable that in the future experienced users will be able to integrate TeamViewer independently and provider-independent into their own applications. At the same time, they want to integrate the in-house tool landscape more closely. The professional monitoring tool Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) was previously an independent tool, but is now also used in TeamViewer Remote Client.

Visually, TeamViewer also features some innovations. The company intends to introduce the new streamlined design concept into its other products in the future and thus ensure “simpler user journeys,” as Witt said. Among other things, the developers have revised the toolbar; the interface also gets a full-text search. TeamViewer Remote is now available as Download to userrespectively as web application available available.
