Her voice has been familiar to most viewers for years, and “Shopping Queen” fans in particular always appreciate her smug and biting comments. This is Thorsten Schorn, the radio and television presenter who has been lending his voice to the styling show for years. STYLEBOOK told him about his work behind the scenes of the successful format – and discovered that Guido has never advised him on fashion.
First of all, viewers associate the format of the Vox show “Shopping Queen” with designer Guido Maria Kretschmer. But while Kretschmer amusedly comments on what is happening in front of the camera, he is the secret star of the show – Thorsten Schorn – with his off-camera comments. Despite the unmistakable voice, many do not know his face. Moderator Schorn doesn’t think it’s a bad thing, as he explains in the interview with STYLEBOOK: “The shopping queen has a face, Guido’s. However, I come from the radio and I’m used to not being seen by anyone”, he says, not only at Vox, but also as a radio presenter at WDR 2 and the RTL game show “Because they don’t know what’s going on” in Usage is – there, by the way, as a game master Before the camera.

With “Shopping Queen” the audience only hears Schorn’s voice but doesn’t see him. So how’s his business going? Is it live during filming? Schorn reveals: his lyrics are recorded only later. It’s similar to “dubbing a feature film.” When it comes to the soundtrack, they are “tweaked” until it fits and it’s fun. “There is an author for every show who watches the episode very closely and writes down to the second exactly when I could say something. When it comes to the soundtrack, there are three of us thinking about where we can find something even funnier” Schorn says. “For example, we always put a lot of effort into what, say, a pet might think or say.”
The finished episode of “Shopping Queen” therefore takes about 45 minutes, but the soundtrack always takes at least twice as long: “We need about two hours for an episode. It can also happen that we record music for four different weeks at the same time. I have to be careful not to get confused with the first names,” explains the moderator. Week after week he comments on the clothing choices of five different “Shopping Queen” nominees from different cities and is popular as the voice of “Shopping Queen”.

Indeed, he could very well imagine that he participates in “Shopping Queen” himself – but not because he would like free fashion advice from Guido, on the contrary: he has never received any fashion advice from the stylist so far. At an important moment in his life, however, he was about to do it: before his wedding, Schorn wanted to ask Guido Maria Kretschmar to choose the right accessories for his outfit. “But we managed to decide on two pairs of suspenders even without his help!” jokes the moderator.
On the subject of fashion, the voice of the queen of shopping takes something away from her work on the show, even without Guido’s expertise, who explains: “Now I’m tackling the subject in a more intense way, I know the trends and I find it exciting. “A look with which he can do nothing at all? Tennis socks in adilettes! In the end, though, it’s not just the statement pieces that are decisive for a 10-point look, her personal fashion credo is: “In the end, fashion should be fun and if you wear what you like, you’re making a lot of things right” – the points that Guido Maria Kretschmar would give us for our outfit are almost irrelevant.
