Are ballerinas really making a comeback? STYLE BOOK

People & Style

That’s the thing with ballet flats. You either love them constantly and have loved them for years or hate them forever. Also because this shoe model has been trying to establish itself again for several seasons. But now ballerinas seem to be making a REAL comeback. STYLEBOOK has taken a closer look at the new styles.

Are we ready for this? We don’t know yet in the newsroom. But if we are now living in a modern era of the ballerinas, we at STYLEBOOK would of course like to make sure that you (and us) are well equipped and can combine the ballerinas well. So, just in time for the comeback, we took a close look at the new styles and outfits.

Return of the ballerinas – shoes for many occasions

You have to admit one thing about flats – they can be worn for a wide variety of occasions in spring, summer and sometimes even fall. If you decide to wear classic ballet flats to the office, you can combine them with jeans and tuck an oversized white blouse into jeans. With a stylish handbag and cool sunglasses, this makes for a pretty chic look that can be worn after work. So it’s no wonder that royal women have been wearing this shoe style every day for decades.

Ballerinas with socks

You read right. And as strange as the words “ballerinas in socks” sound in combination, it doesn’t sound so crazy. In fact, it even looks pretty cool. As always, this style needs to be styled correctly and worn with conviction. The shoe model looks especially beautiful when the socks are used in a contrasting color and are worn with a mini-skirt or mini-dress.

Ballerinas with lacing

The high-laced flats are reminiscent of the original flats. Those that were once only available to ballerinas, the women who danced ballet. And since the lacing makes everything very feminine, you can decide whether you want to offer the entire feminine spectrum when it comes to styling or a whole contrasting program with somewhat darker colors and rock elements.

Colorful ballet flats

As a rule, ballet flats are selected in muted colors and are therefore as reserved on the foot as possible. But this year, more and more designers are bringing bright colors to the world of flats. This immediately makes the shoes an eye-catcher that can be worn with jeans – depending on the color – or with a dress in summer. Especially the ballet flats in pink, blue and purple are seen more and more on the streets.

Return 2023: Ballerinas with heels

Indeed, there is a difference between simple pumps and ballet flats with a heel – everyone should know the classic beige Chanel shoes with black lace and a block heel. But today this model is not only available from Chanel, but also from countless street and fast fashion brands. The heel is usually thick and not too high, making them a chic shoe for everyday wear. Flats with heels are particularly suitable for elegant looks and look particularly elegant with casual mom jeans and a high-quality basic shirt.

Pointed toe ballet flats are back

Pointed toe flats have their limits, even after they make a comeback. Since the ballet flats visually stretch the foot anyway, the pointed shape only supports this instead of hiding it. It is therefore a bit difficult for the larger sizes (from shoe size 42). But here it also depends on the height of the heel and the overall shape of the shoe. However, so that the shoe does not look like a pointed boat above your feet, it is worth trying on several shoes in this shape – provided that it is this model – and try them on your foot with different combinations, especially jeans. The same applies to the top models: there is a suitable shoe for every foot. You may need to search a bit longer here.

The Great Ballerina Bottom Line (and Mistakes to Avoid)

If you look at the new ballerina styles, the great variety quickly becomes clear. So we can no longer generalize about flats and think of flat, round shoes with a bow in front. Today there is something for almost every taste.

However, there are some mistakes that should be avoided at all costs when wearing ballet flats:

  • Wear socks in a visible way: If you wear socks with flats, you should make sure that they also serve their purpose: i.e. the benefits of a sock without being seen.
  • While flats look especially good in the summer, they fear flared pants. So if you want longer trousers, you should rather look for narrower models in the wardrobe.
  • Ballerinas need air: however it happens, your feet tend to sweat more in ballet flats than in any other shoe. Even Uggs sometimes look better at more than 30 degrees. However, to keep your shoes fresh for a long time, you should occasionally take them outside to air them.
