Tips for maintaining eyeshadow in summer

People & Style

Summer brings many benefits, but high temperatures, sweat and smudged makeup are not among them. STYLEBOOK has tips on how to avoid panda eyes and how your eyeshadow can stand up to the heat.

Oily lids ensure that the applied eyeshadow does not last long or slip in the wrong places. Sweating and contact with water intensify this effect and fade the colours. If you still don’t want to do without the glam total look with high temperatures, STYLEBOOK reveals practical advice on how to keep your eyeshadow bomb-proof even in summer.

The right cleaning

Before applying makeup, be sure to wipe off any cream or oil residue from the lid. So, when applying your moisturizer in the morning, it’s important to avoid the eye area or wait until the product is fully absorbed. The remains can also be removed with a cosmetic tissue. So your eyeshadow can withstand high temperatures even in summer. If you want to be absolutely sure that your eyelid is free of grease, dab a little makeup remover or micellar water on a cotton ball and gently swipe it over your lids. Danger! Make sure the makeup remover is oil-free, otherwise you will only enhance the effect.

Use an eyeshadow primer in the summer

An eyeshadow primer forms an even base and ensures a long-lasting hold. This way, you can make sure your eyeshadow lasts longer, especially in the summer. It also ensures that the eyeshadow applied afterwards has a more intense effect. To do this, apply a small amount of primer all over the eyelid and let it dry well. No primer at hand? Alternatively, a little transparent powder or a light foundation can be applied to the eyelid.

The right eyeshadow for the summer

Whether matte or glossy finish, brown tones or bright colours: now the song can be painted as you wish. In principle, however, it is advisable to use highly pigmented eyeshadows in summer. This ensures rich colors throughout the day. Powder textures are also recommended because they are more resistant to sweat and humidity than cream eyeshadows in summer temperatures.

Setting spray makes eyeshadow last longer in summer

Special setting sprays, also called setting sprays, which are sprayed on the face after applying eyeshadow, make the eyeshadow last longer. Make sure that the spray is adapted to the respective skin type. For oily skin, a water-based spray is recommended. Sprays for dry skin, on the other hand, contain more oils and moisturizing ingredients. The spray can also simply be left in your pocket on particularly hot days and reapplied every few hours. So you don’t have to do without eyeshadow even on hot summer days.

Use waterproof mascara

While it’s not an eyeshadow, it can still cause smudging — mascara crumbling over eye makeup that’s already been applied can be frustrating. So that your mascara isn’t responsible for you having to reapply eyeshadow in the summer, it’s best to use waterproof mascara. This holds better and settles less in unwanted places. Bonus: Waterproof mascara allows curled lashes to hold their curl better!

Don’t touch your face

You squint because the sun is glaring, or you try in a panic to brush the pesky pollen out of the corner of your eye and it happened: the eyeshadow is suddenly no longer where it should be. So, in the summer, be especially careful not to touch your face all the time. This is not only good for makeup but also more hygienic.
