Tour de France: Tadej Pogacar saws Jonas Vingegaard to throne – battle for yellow jersey in Alps

Sport

Nothing new for Pogacar, with the 24-year-old finally looking to pick up where he left off at the Jura summit over the weekend.

Four seconds ahead of Vingegaard, two-time UAE Tour winner Team Emirates finished third on the day, secured four bonus seconds and reduced the minimum gap to his Danish opponent in the general classification from 17 to nine seconds again smaller.

“Everyone can get a lot of confidence and motivation from today,” Pogacar said. Even without a win on the day, it was “a win in the fight for the yellow jersey” for his team.

However, a final decision in the Great Loop has not been made, as Vingegaard knows. And so last year’s winner is equally confident ahead of the tough Alpine double peloton, despite lost seconds on the Tourmalet stage and Puy de Dome.

“I am confident in myself and in my strengths, it will be exciting in the next few days” said the general leader of Team Jumbo-Visma, “I am in good shape”.
