Spotify is getting more expensive in Austria

Technology

Spotify is raising subscription prices in Austria: the standard subscription now costs 11 euros per month instead of the previous 10 euros per month. The student pass is also increasing in price. In the future it will cost 6 euros instead of the previous 5 euros per month.

Announcement

The magazine writes that customers in Austria will be notified of the new prices by email Futurezone.at. As a result, the increased prices apply initially to new customers. Existing customers have until September 30 to object to the price change – in which case the subscription will be cancelled.

There are currently no signs that a price increase for Spotify subscriptions is imminent in Germany. Spotify had already raised the prices for duo and family subscriptions in Austria last year. This means that all subscription options in Austria are now more expensive than in Germany.

In addition to the price increases, Spotify is currently planning to introduce an entirely new subscription tier. one Bloomberg report Spotify plans to offer a more expensive model with lossless music streaming later this year. The new subscription level should therefore be called “Supremium” and will initially be offered in markets outside the USA – where it is open.

Spotify previously announced hi-fi streaming in CD quality in 2021, but then quietly canceled the rollout. The company was probably reacting to the competitive situation: Both Amazon and Apple integrated lossless streaming into their music streaming services in mid-2021 at no extra cost.

Lossless subscription pricing information is still pending. Spotify has yet to comment on the report. Amazon Music Unlimited costs 11 euros per month for customers without a Prime subscription (con: 9 euros), Apple Music can also be subscribed for 11 euros. Spotify, on the other hand, costs only 10 euros per month in Germany, which is cheaper than the competition. Alternatively, Spotify is free to use with commercial breaks.
