Apple product names are, at least initially, often pulled out of cocoa. That was about 13 years ago with the tablet iPads so or so Dynamic Island functionality in iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max. The Vision Pro, Apple’s first mixed reality headset, is also likely to have jokes like this one, at least if a beta leak is correct, which lists a new name for the battery to be plugged in by cable.

tvOS 17 with the next leak
According to developer and leak expert @aaronp613, Apple has created a “Magic Battery” from the accessory formerly known as the “MagSafe Battery Pack”. This reference is valid in the fifth developer pre-release of tvOS 17, which was released this week and has already spawned other code leaks. “Looks like the Vision Pro battery has a new name.”
It’s unclear why Apple introduced the new term and whether it actually ends up in the product — after all, such betas are still a testing ground among developers, despite being publicly available. Furthermore, “Magic Battery” would also be quite an exaggeration: the battery pack, which is made of a dull aluminum alloy, is not really magical. Then it is connected to a braided cable, which itself locks onto the Vision Pro using a special connector.
Two hours or on a leash
The user must carry the “Magic Battery” in his jacket or trouser pocket or attach it to his belt using fastening accessories not yet available. Even the autonomy is not magical: “The external battery allows an autonomy of up to 2 hours,” writes Apple succinctly. After all, the battery has a USB-C connection, to which a power supply can be connected with another cable. This makes “all day use” possible, even when on a leash.
The new battery term has also taken care of this waited for euphoria. As the past has taught us, however, Apple often manages to hide these jokes, even with the power of marketing: nobody has laughed at the iPad for a long time and even with Dynamic Island there are only rarely grimaces. The Vision Pro will be released in Spring 2024 and is expected to cost at least $3500.
