In urgent proceedings before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Germany must defend itself against serious charges. The state of Nicaragua appealed to the highest court of the United Nations (UN). The accusation is that Germany is aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes and the Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Just a few weeks ago, on January 26, the International Court of Justice issued provisional orders against Israel because it saw a risk of violating the 1948 Genocide Convention. Now it’s Germany’s turn: experts estimate that in two to three weeks the representatives of Berlin will be able to sit in the chairs reserved for defendants in the courtroom. Germany has only sat there twice in its history. The exact date has not yet been set.
