Kim Kardashian’s dress in the Fendi Baguette fashion show

Fendi made its grand debut at New York Fashion Week with a glitzy, star-studded show at Manhattan’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The event marked the 25th anniversary of the baguette, the house’s It bag that rose to fame in the 2000s and was recently revived in the 2020s. The highly anticipated show featured some New York celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Sarah Jessica Parker, who helped make the bag popular on “Sex and the City.”

Kardashian appeared in a sheer, floor-length gown covered in sequins. The dress features a high neckline, panels in various shades along the bodice that stretch to the hem, as well as long sleeves that cover everything but her manicure. Her platinum blonde hair was pulled back in a low bun to show off her soft makeup. She accessorized with sparkly block-heeled sandals — and, naturally, a sequined Fendi baguette bag.

Several new iterations of the baguette bag also appeared on the runway. Creative director Kim Jones collaborated with Marc Jacobs and Tiffany & Co. to reimagine the accessory, launched in 1997, originally inspired by the way French women carry baguettes under their arms. Jacobs’ take on the bag was reminiscent of New York City, with sleek, sleek design elements. One handbag was encrusted with glittering crystals, another nodded to logomania with fresh takes on the Fendi logo. She created a total of 10 looks for the fashion house, from long train skirts to destroyed denim jackets.

The Tiffany & Co. design influence appeared in the bag in the famous Tiffany-blue shade. The other is covered with a diamond T and F logo. and another made of sterling silver and engraved with the national flowers of Italy and New York. Baguettes were also reinterpreted as ready-to-wear in the most imaginative ways, showing up as cargo pockets on mini skirts and front warmer pockets on wool jackets. Guests were even sent physical invitations with a baguette-inspired wallet emblazoned with the Fendi logo.

Most notably, Sarah Jessica Parker carried a personal baguette bag to the event. “It’s not a bag, it’s a baguette,” she said as Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex and the City,” and the line was emblazoned on the inside of her bright purple handbag. It’s part of the capsule collection he designed with Silvia Venturini Fendi, which includes different colors (like pink and baby blue) and features four interchangeable buckles.
