A or B, AB or O, it doesn’t matter: blood type has nothing to do with the risk of having a severe Covid-19, a new study concludes.

This is now confirmed by a review of nearly 108,000 patients that found no link between blood type and Covid-19 risk published on JAMA Network Open.

Early in the pandemic, some studies suggested that people with type A blood were more susceptible to Covid-19, while those with type O blood were less so.

“Since the beginning of this pandemic, associations between blood type and disease susceptibility have been postulated,” says Amesh Adalja, principal investigator at the Johns Hopkins Center.
