On Android, users have more options when downloading applications than the Google Play Store. Among them is the independent ‘app’ store based in Malaga Uptodown, which has 130 million unique users per month. The company, which has managed to make a small gap in a highly competitive market, in which Google accounts for more than 90% of the share with its store in the United States, was created in 2002 by two Spanish engineering students. “We started long before ‘smartphones’ existed. We started by dedicating ourselves to hosting applications for computers. At that time we had everything from productivity apps to videogames », explains Luis Hernández, executive director, in conversation with ABC.
