Bearman, ADAC Formula 4 champion in 2021, has been part of Ferrari’s youth system since 2022. Last year he made his debut in Formula 2 and won four races as a rookie.

Sainz, third in last week’s season opener in Bahrain, missed Wednesday’s media day due to an unspecified illness.

He got into the car in the first and second practice sessions in Jeddah on Thursday and took seventh place in the daily standings.

“I hope to feel better tomorrow, although I probably won’t be 100%,” the 29-year-old said then: “But if I feel better than today, I can push myself closer to the limit and have a decent Saturday.”
