After being forced to withdraw last week against Borna Coric in the semi-finals of the ATP tournament in Montpellier, Holger Rune returned to health in time for the UTS event in the Norwegian capital.
“I feel good, I was able to recover. The previous four days of rest were good,” the 20-year-old said in an interview with Eurosport before the match against local hero Casper Ruud.
There are some special features in the UTS tour. For example, the coach is allowed to sit on the court with his protégé and there is a “no rule” that excludes second serving after touching the net during the serve.
Not a bad idea, Rune thinks. “I think the rule is very good. Why would you repeat the service?” He could imagine that this idea would be introduced into the ATP tour at some point.
Rune does not want to reveal the new coaching team
When asked about the recent changes in his team, the Dane said he was particularly happy with the now “much less stressful” role of his mother, who will no longer accompany him to every tournament.
Aneke Rune had previously taken care of her son’s marketing and media representation, but now an agency is taking over these tasks.
The young man did not want to reveal who will fill the role of head coach in the future and how he envisions his coaching team.
Rune and Becker had ‘great chemistry’
For the moment, only Kenneth Carlsen will remain on his coaching staff: “He’s an exceptional boy, he’s been at my side since I was 15 or 16, we were in the same club in Denmark and we have a very strong bond.” The former professional and former captain of the Danish Davis Cup team is now with him in Oslo and “there is no intention of stopping”, indicating a long-term collaboration.
Rune’s mother, Aneke, recently revealed that the separation from Becker is not due to bad relations, on the contrary.
